Subject: Yes we're flying
Two aircraft are di'd and about to be towed out.
We have patches of blue & plenty of cloud.

That was email #1 from (today's duty Air Experience Instructor) Mike McCluskey ... accompanied by this photo ...

and this was Mike's email #2 ...

The heavens have opened up so unfortunately we're packing up for the day.

... and this is what had transpired between emails ...

Fairly heavy rain fell for around and hour (very much immediately around the airfield area and back to Caboolture ... there was still large areas of blue sky out towards Donnybrook right throughout the YCAB downpour). It however left the runway surrounds looking very ordinary ...

Can you guess what this is?

It is the back of (today's duty Tug Pilot) Mike Grady's shirt after he had a little trouble lining up the combination on the lock to get SPA back in its hangar and out of the rain ... once we had the tug back inside there was lots of wiping down to be done by Mike ...

... assisted by Lynette McCarthy ...

A "royal wave" from (today's Duty Instructor) Barry McCarthy in the wet weather gear that he had donned to help Mike Grady wrestle with the lock during the downpour.

And guess who got the blame for bringing the rain with him ... (today's rostered Instructor) John Clayton who arrived during the downpour only to admit that the weather looked fine all the way up from Brisbane Southside until he passed the Morayfield exit.

When you are affectionately known as "JC", surely you can do something about the weather?

Passing the twin-BP's on the way back to Brisbane at around 11:00 am ... the skies looked a lot better and reinforced just how "local to YCAB" the heavy rain had been this morning. A disappointing result for a day that had looked much more promising than Friday or Saturday (days which provided some good gliding conditions despite the forecasted rain and the discouraging early morning skies) ... but took little time to become a complete wash-out.
