Saturday Pics

12-Nov-11

The following pics from today's gliding operations at Caboolture were provided by  Simon Descovich (Duty Pilot) ... the captions are from Simon's report as well as general chatter.

Bernard "Speedy" Gonsalves getting his Sleicher K14 Motor Glider ready to self-launch at Runway 06. Speedy's was the first flight of the day ... he came back around 2.5 hours later at around 12:45 pm (by when the the promising lift that had been around at 10.00 am had well and truly dissipated). Speedy reported lift to a maximum of around 4,300 feet and hard work keeping up as midday approached).

At the pie-cart ... David Higgs, John Clayton, Garret's friend Barbera and Garrett Russell.

David Higgs and Simon Descovich had earlier taken the Club's IS-28 CQC up (first aero tow launch of the day) that saw them using air-brakes to bring bring her back from some nice thermals after 39 minutes to share her with the waiting Garrett Russell.  With friend Barbera on board, Garrettt was back on deck after only 9 minutes after bunging off early into what turned out to be excellent sink. So they loaded up for a "re-light"  ... pictured  above is Simon Descovich connecting the tow-rope to CQC with Garrett Russell in the rear seat and friend Barbera up- front ready for her second flight ...

... but they just kept coming back!

Kevin Rodda brings the "pocket rocket" WUC (Schweizer 1-35) back to earth at around 12:40 pm after completing the longest aero-tow flight of the day at 1 hour 12 minutes (from a 1,600 feet launch which saw him scratching around for around 30 minutes in the area between the Airfield and the Showground before finally reaching 3,000 feet and getting away). He also reported reaching a maximum of 4,300 feet on a couple of occasions to the west of the Quarry in what was basically a totally blue sky.

Simon Descovich readies himself and CQC for a solo flight hoping that Garrett has a direct line on his mobile to the 'God of Thermal Delivery'. Simon was howevr feeling fairly sceptical, and with good reason ... he was back on deck after 17 minutes of dodging the larger bits of the sink that he claims Garrett had carelessly left up there.
