Go for solo - Thursday

Yes, the unmistakable smile of a first solo pilot. Congratulations, David Lillistone, on smoothly flying his landmark sortie and the series of rope break exercises which preceded it.

Adam French and Adam Luff also performed well with a couple of early rope breaks – designed not only to keep them on their toes but also to keep their daily check flights short so they’d have maximum chance at the thermals booming overhead. 

Adam French turned that chance into 61 minutes of flying – his first solo hour and the day’s second ranking achievement. Rope breaks aside, there were so many long flights that the flight line had a very empty feel for much of the day:

Three great results from the week’s biggest day so far – 15 flights all up, seven each for GYK (1:53) and CQC (2:29) plus the single GJY epic.

Kevin Roden was duty instructor again; Lindsay Mitchell mentored Simon Descovich on the art of blue thermaling; I had the pleasure of starting and ending the day by surprising Adam Luff and David Guzzwell with low rope breaks; and thanks to Paul Strike and Tony Sorensen for a big day of towing.
