Barry McCarthy was back in the skipper’s seat for the last day of Go for Solo Week.

Only two other regular Friday fliers were with him, and they made sure of showing the trainees how it’s done by scoring the flight of the day.

Congratulations to Bob Hainsworth and Charles Hoch on their 1:14 mutual aboard CQC.

One of the week’s trainees was not far behind them – Simon Descovich put his recent mentoring into practice to log his first hour-plus solo at 1:02.

Those were the highlights of the day’s 15 flights, which also included more training and check flights and on-going solos for David Lillistone, Adam French, Adam Luff, David Guzzwell and Allan Graham.

Thanks to Paul Strike for flying the tug all day.

The day’s stats:
GYK 7 flights 2:11
CQC 7 flights 3:25
with the fifteenth flight being Kevin Rodda in his WUC, too late for the lift at 25 minutes.

The final score of Go for Solo Week adds up to an impressive number of achievements for individual members and the club as a whole:

2 first solo flights
3 first one-hour-plus solos
At least one A & B Certificate theory test passes
One DI endorsement

Mick Moloney's L1 Instructor wings

70 flights for the five non-standard flying days
And of course that 3,000 hour flight for John Clayton

Plus there may be more depending on what’s happens today and Sunday!

Thanks to all the instructors and tuggies who made the week possible – especially David Higgs, who was at the field for much more than his scheduled time – and to the members who spent so much of the week in the hangar on maintenance and moving out tasks.

Including the AGM BBQ, the whole week was a great way for the club to take off from Hangar 105.
