A bit big (the attached PowerPoint file) but this article on A320 is well worthwhile.
Interesting the button he hits to ditch on water which locks the rear exit door and seals the rest of the A320 so as it floats ... and he left the plane with clipboard passenger list and cap on when on ferry sipping a coffee!!! 
Unfortunately no mention that he was a glider pilot. 
As a friend said … most pilots are focused on getting back to an airfield but a glider pilot thinks out of the square a little more and will consider all options other than airports.     
I can always remember being yelled at by my instructor when learning in C152 when I side slipped to a paddock for a practice engine out !!!!
Another great save was the Gimli glider 26 years ago and how he side slipped (his gliding skill) the B767 short of the piano keys.
