 2011 Festival of Flight

Day Two

(Sunday 28-Aug-11)

The "Festival of Flight" is the largest pure Fly-In event (ie: no Air Show component) to be staged in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a two day event held annually on the last weekend of August and is organised by the Queensland Vintage Aeroplane Group / Australian Flying Museum (QVAG). Normally located at Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield, the 2011 event (which was also the 20th Anniversary of the "Festival of Flight") was staged by QVAG at Caboolture Airfield in partnership with the Caboolture Aero Club. Through our active membership of the Caboolture Aero Club, the Caboolture Gliding Club was pleased to be involved as an exhibitor in 2011 as well as to provide volunteers to control on behalf of the Caboolture Aero Club the collection of entrance fees at the gates.

STOP before you even think about touching my now sparkling clean SPA !!!

To wrap things up Adam Luff (in cockpit) showed us the finer points of simulator aero tow ... Adam, you need to give Lindsay Mitchell a few lessons.

... and yes Garrett, I think it was fair statement that “Our whole crew was so busy that they probably missed a lot of the Festival action”

Thanks to everyone that chipped in to make our contribution to the event a memorable one. As with these kinds of events we had people interested in AEFs, others interested in membership details and tyre-kickers just wanting to get out of the rain.

Time will tell but there was definite enthusiasm from the crowds.

My thanks also to Doug Brooks from Gliding Queensland for towing the simulator down from Bundaberg and for helping out today.

The simulator is now on its way up to Gympie and the hangar has been restacked to its original configuration, ready for a weekend of practicing what we have all been preaching for two days.

Cheers,

David Higgs
