 2011 Festival of Flight

Day One

(Saturday 27-Aug-11)

The "Festival of Flight" is the largest pure Fly-In event (ie: no Air Show component) to be staged in the Southern Hemisphere. It is a two day event held annually on the last weekend of August and is organised by the Queensland Vintage Aeroplane Group / Australian Flying Museum (QVAG). Normally located at Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield, the 2011 event (which was also the 20th Anniversary of the "Festival of Flight") was staged by QVAG at Caboolture Airfield in partnership with the Caboolture Aero Club. Through our active membership of the Caboolture Aero Club, the Caboolture Gliding Club was pleased to be involved as an exhibitor in 2011 as well as to provide volunteers to control on behalf of the Caboolture Aero Club the collection of entrance fees at the gates.

Rain? What rain? Despite the weather there was a constant crowd at Caboolture today, and many of them came to our hangar.

While Chris Guy, Adam Luff, Eric Dickeson, Shane Tuck, Peter Stephenson, Leon Moran and Adam French contributed greatly with their long and damp work at the gates, an even bigger number of members helped to make CGC one of the biggest attractions. (And not just because it was one of the driest)

Thanks to Mick Moloney, David Higgs, Kevin Roden, Andrew Lewis, Lindsay Mitchell, Tony Sorensen, Barry and Lynette McCarthy, Mark Thompson, Steve Bowtell and John Knox for a PR effort which resulted in at least five potential new members and an incalculable number of possible AEFs.

There is no doubt our Simulator was the busiest cockpit on the airfield all day!

A good result from a not so good day, and something all members concerned can be proud of.

Garrett
