The black Blanik is back!

14-May-11

I was lucky enough to play ballast behind Bert [Persson] late Saturday morning ...

... for the one hour evaluation flight of our Llewelyn-endorsed Blanik GYK.

After happily being cleared to fly, GYK was promptly placed on the flight line and before the afternoon was out the Blanik had managed to tick training card entries for boxing the slipstream, high tow, cable hook-up simulation, stalls, modified circuit, full brake landing and wing-down takeoff. Hopefully today was equally diverse and demanding.

Also there for the occasion on Saturday were Lindsay [Mitchell] and Speedy [Bernard Gonsalves].

Thanks go to not only Bert, Speedy and Lindsay but to all of the maintenance crew who helped get GYK back where she belongs – in the hands of our members. Well done guys.

Cheers, David

I'll humbly accept some thanks but in reality it is Bert who did the major amount of the work greatly assisted by Speedy.  Unfortunately I was only to help a little but then I did have the paper trail to run.

There mightn't be much of Bert weight wise but he is worth far more than his weight in gold to the club.  The average member probably has a small idea but those of us privileged to work with him, to see his work, to be continually mentored by him are truly indebted to him.

I should also remind everyone of the unseen work and effort that has been done in the GFA secretariat to get GYK back in the air.  Sometimes members ask what we get for our GFA membership.  Getting GYK back in the air is a very real example and be very aware a lot of it was done by volunteers.
