Considering the weather reports for the Easter weekend, we had both a good day and a good rollup.

If you were watching the weather, and all glider pilots do, you would have been aware of a trough moving through the southeast corner.

Ahead of it on Sunday morning were hot and steamy conditions with threatening clouds way out to the West.

Given that, the duty crew of Peter Stevenson, Kevin Rodda, Mark Yabsley, myself and Karl Bodi standing in for Steve Bowtel, readied equipment and gliders for the day.
No AEFs but Rupert Perry turned up with two mates, Kieren and Peter? (Sorry Rupert, I don’t have my cheat sheet). We also had a visit from Ashley and Ben from Rockhampton for some spin training. Dave Crocker also arrived to continue his training.

Meanwhile, Chris Weir continued de-skining the Libelle trailer. Great work Chris, we really appreciate it. Note: If you see any of the skins on the ground in the vehicle parking area, please pop them up against the wall. We found the falcon parked on top of them on Sunday.

Chris Weir ... hard at work on one of the rare sunny flying days at YCAB in recent times

Runway was 30 for the day. Peter Stevenson put on his ‘passenger from hell’ persona and put Rupert through is passenger rating, which he survived and was duly endorsed. Congratulations Rupert. I took Kieran for his first introduction to silent flight. He is a keen RC enthusiast, but seemed to take a shine to the ‘real thing’. Hope we’ll see him back for another taste.
Ashley and I took to the skies for some spin training, which he executed perfectly. Well done Ashley. Chris (with David in tow I believe), took the 30 for a run.
Mark Yabsley took on his first day as Duty Pilot. Good work Mark and thanks for your efforts.
Speedy took his K6 for some exercise and Kev with some willing helpers, rigged the Schweizer and had a crack at the short window of thermals.
By midday, the trough was well and truly coming through the area, so we packed up with the rain coming down just as we sat down for some drinks and paperwork in the hangar.
Pity really, because the thermals were just starting to run nicely.
All in all, a good day for everyone and thanks to all the helpers.
Six flights in all I think.

Addendum:
How could I miss this Guy!
Chris Guy that is.
And what is he doing perched on the runway marker?

Taking full advantage and some video of the P51 coming out to play.  Better luck next time Chris.
Chris was looking for a 1 hr flight for his ‘C’ certificate and might have made it but the rain beat him.

Welcome back to gliding Chris!
