More Friday Flying

A
beautiful day, one could almost think winter was over,
but not much lift early on. With Bob Turner as Level 2
assisted by Barry McCarthy, John Knox flying the tug,
QA and GYK were DI'ed and towed out to 30. Bob flew
with Jessica Bellamy in GYK and Barry with Shane Tuck
in QA before 10.00 hours, low height launches for
training, correspondingly short times. This continued
with Bob and Jessica again, Barry with Ken Mitchell
continuing his conversion to the IS30, and then Bob
with Guy Templeman. Nothing above 2300 feet and 13
minutes.
The
passenger Paul Mitchell arrived and was taken up by
Barry to 3500 feet in QA, they returned 51 minutes
later claiming it was difficult to get back down. I
know, we've all heard that before, but Bob and Jessica
launched to 2500 feet for 28 minutes in the Blanik,
followed by Arthur Mailey and myself in QA to 3000 for
33 minutes. The lift was there but it was hard work.
Steve Bowtell took over the tug duties from John,
thanks to them both for their efforts.
The
day improved but not the lift. Guy Templeman flew his
first solo, congratulations Guy, Peter Stephenson
arrived to undergo his annual check flight, and Bill
Beeton walked in to join the club and had his first
flight in a glider since 15 years ago.
Finally, flying
the Blanik to the tie down area with a 2000 foot
launch, Shane Tuck scratched around in very weak lift,
keeping us waiting for exactly 1 hour, but made up for
it by buying the beer. Well done Shane, who has been
seeking that elusive second hour for quite some time.
The
stats: GYK 8 flights totaling 3.08, QA 6 flights
totaling 2.18.
