CGC has a new CFI

31-Dec-13

David Higgs was selected unanimously by his peers at the CGC Instructor's Panel meeting (held on 18-Dec-13) to be put forward to the GFA as the Club's replacement for John Ashford in the CFI  (Chief Flying Instructor) role. Club President Lindsay Mitchell has now confirmed that David's nomination has been accepted by the GFA's RTO/Ops - Qld Region (Tony Scarlett).

Congratulations David, the positive discussion at the meeting and the favourable comments that have since been made around the club re your nomination/appointment attest to the fact that you will be well supported in the role by the club's instructors and other members. Please make sure that you spread the workload as much as is possible!

While David enjoys the friendly/social training atmosphere at Caboolture, he also likes to do cross-country gliding when the opportunity arises.

And while we welcome David into the role, we thank John Ashford for his efforts as CFI since he took over from Bryan Wade. Some will probably not have realised that Scrubby is the only true "two separate terms" CFI in the Club's history .... although Bob Turner did do a six month "temporary three month" stint in 1989 to enable the start up off CGC's forerunner the Brisbane Valley Gliding Club. Scrubby's friendly and supportive nature along with his broad aviation experience have been a great asset to the Club and its members. Thanks John!

Following on from Bob in his temporary role in 1989 have been Tony Hayes (1990), Peter Johnson (1991), Bill Schoon (1992-94), Bob Gray (1995-99), Bob Turner (2000-02), Richard Friday (2003), John Ashford (2003-05), Brian Wade (2005-11), John Ashford again (2012-13) and now David Higgs.

John has also been a regular Tug Pilot at Caboolture over many years.
