More than 20 members were in attendance this evening to hear the President’s, Treasurer’s, CFI’s and Tug Master’s reports presented at the club's annual general meeting.

Those reports will be posted on the website for your perusal, so no detail now beyond reporting that the meeting agreed the club has performed amazingly well against this year’s headwinds of bulk flying cancellations due to weather and of course our tug troubles.

Old and new Secretary (David Higgs), President (Lindsay Mitchell) and Treasurer (Kevin Rodda)

(Vice President Barry McCarthy as well a Committee Members Garrett Russell and Mick Moloney were also returned to office)

The full committee was returned unopposed:

President: Lindsay Mitchell
Vice President: Barry McCarthy
Treasurer: Kevin Rodda
Secretary: David Higgs
Members Mick Moloney, Garrett Russell
(CFI John Ashford and Tug Master Steve Bowtell are also on the committee without the need for election)

Welcome visitors, former CFI Brian Wade and his lovely wife Anne

Among the assembled members, former CFI Brian Wade and his lovely wife Anne were very welcome visitors. They had been invited by Lindsay in order for him to propose that the meeting vote to grant Brian Life Membership in honour of his eight years as CFI and over 20 years of dedicated service to the club. The vote was loudly unanimous!

Brian accepted his Life Membership in a fine statesman-like manner while the recipient of this year's John Sharman Award remained shrouded in secrecy

The other major point of business was the announcement of the third annual John Sharman Award for outstanding “quiet achiever” service to the club. The previous recipients are John Clayton and Speedy Gonsalves, exalted company indeed. So who did the committee deem worthy of recognition this year?

It was not the whole committee which decided, as seven out of the eight agreed among themselves that the events of the year the financial strain of so many non-flying days, so much tug maintenance expense, and the sad passing of our bookkeeper Austin Miller would have been much worse but for the efforts of one member whose shoulders bore the burden almost alone.

Please join us in applauding Kevin Rodda ... the new custodian of the Blanik Trophy.

But not for long! The bemused smile on Kevin Rodda's face shows how honoured he feels to be in such company

And exalted company it is - Kevin joins John Clayton and Bernard Gonsalves as tireless "quiet achievers"
