Lift scarce Saturday

30-Aug-14

Any decent lift was fairly scarce at YCAB today ... a 4,500 feet Air Experience Flight taken by David Higgs just after noon returning the aerotow flight of the day (a modest 35 minutes).

With only two voucher Air Experience Flights scheduled and no members on hand for training and/or member flying, the Duty Crew consisting of David Higgs (Duty Instructor), Mark Thompson (Instructor), Neil Muspratt (Air Experience Instructor), Steve Chapman (Tug Pilot) and Rod Wilson (Duty Pilot) took IS-28 CQC and Blanik GYK to RWY12 where they set up a cosy flight line using the foldable gazebo.

A call from Garrett Russell advising that he had taken an enquiry for three Pay on Day AEF's upped the ante. This, along with Robert Hart calling in for an annual check flight (after an absence resulting from surgery to a snapped Achilles tendon), Garrett calling in to ensure all was well with the AEF passengers, and the arrival at the flight light of the Kookaburra (with its owners Speedy Gonsalves and Kevin Rodda) made for a fairly busy day that resulted in 9 flights totaling 182 minutes.

Highlights of the day were:

- watching close up Speedy's very well executed side slipping descent on late final in the Kookaburra,

- watching in the distance David Higgs' creative flying to satisfy the aerobatic interest of some of the AEF passengers,

- and enjoying the excellent interaction between CGC members and our guests under the shade of the gazebo.

While this was all happening, without any fuss or attention seeking, Bert Persson self launched in his motorglider and disappeared for 2 hours and 10 minutes!

Statistics:
Blanik GYK 2 flights for 36 minutes
Kookaburra GLM 2 flights for 32 mins
   IS-28 CQC 5 flights for 114 minutes
