At last a nice Friday

Hi
all,
A
lovely day today, at last. Bob Turner as Duty
Instructor ably assisted by Tony Sorensen and
Garrett Russell back from his travels with an iPad
full of photos of vintage gliders. John Knox as
tuggie, sans Pat today as he was going to a model
aircraft site later. Judith conspicuous by her
absence, having travelled to the Alice, but Shane
Tuck, Arthur Mailey, Ken Mitchell, fully recovered
from his nasty bug, and yours truly, represented the
Friday Crew, plus Michael Burnett who had organised
a day off work, all duly arrived early. John
Nestor had promised to arrive after lunch and
brought his lady Anne with him.
I
put the battery from the new Barina back in it after
it had been charged earlier, and hay presto, she
started first turn of the key, I also checked the
voltages and it appears to be charging OK from the
alternator. I also put a steering lock into it,
please use that at the end of the day. If any
further trouble with it occurs I would be grateful
if at least one of those present at the time could
give me a detailed report on what has happened, or
not happened. The old Barina was found parked
unlocked and with the keys in it by Bob Turner who
arrived first, and the Ford had been parked facing
inwards, so if jump leads had been required to start
it we would have had to push it out first. The IS28
DI book was found inside the cockpit.
The
first flight of the day was a check flight for
Lindsay Mitchell at 10.08, and they were up
for 38 minutes, only returning out of consideration
for those waiting on the ground. Shane Tuck and Ken
Mitchell then took check flights, achieving 34 and
54 minutes respectively. Arthur decided to go and
get the Libelle. Michael Burnett then went for a
training flight with Garrett in the Blanik but only
got 22 minutes, he later took 3 more flights with
Garrett.
Kevin
Rodda appeared with his Ka6 and launched, achieving
the flight of the day at 2 hours 11. Shane and
Arthur optimistically launched in the Blanik and
Libelle respectively, each achieving a glorious 12
minutes in the air. Arthur later made up for this
with a 1hour 10 minute flight in the Libelle.

Kevin
Rodda returns to YACB after a 2hrs 11mns flight in
his ES-KA6 "Romeo Victor". From a 2,200ft
launch at 12:15, and after about an hour of
scratching around to get to 3,500 ft, he headed to the north of the Airfield where he climbed many
times to the 4,500ft ceiling in an arc from Mt
Tibrogargan to Bribie Island [Photo: Nathan Bowtell]. |

| I
then took a back seat flight with Tony in the IS28,
continuing my training for a back seat rating, we
flew for 44 minutes and after landing Tony declared
that I could have the rating. I hanger flew the IS28
with Anne Bradley as my first passenger. |

After
training/test flights that were interrupted by two
successive sets of Fri/Sun/Mon washouts, L2's Tony Sorensen
(left) and Bob Turner (right) conspired to confirm
Bob Hainsworth's passenger endorsement [photo:

Bob
Hainsworth was all smiles back at the tie-down area
passenger with his first passenger Anne Bradley.
Anne, who had received several complimentary
comments during the afternoon about the hat with
flower, commented that Bob "did well" and
that she had "felt very comfortable flying
with him" [photo:

| The
stats, CQC 6 flights totaling 2 hours 59, GYK 6
flights 1 hour 49, GJY 2 flights 1hour 22, GRV 1
flight 2 hours 11. |
