 Gloomy end to FY15

28-Jun-15

With a bright sunny sky in the east and the radio in the car forecasting "a cloudy day with some chance of rain late in the day", I was feeling some optimism about the potential for gliding today as I headed to Caboolture from Brisbane's north side early this morning.

However that all changed when, virtually "out of the blue", rain drops started to hit the windshield just short of the Bribie Island interchange at 7:20 am ...

The next couple of minutes saw the raindrops develop into a heavy shower and the view from the inter-change bridge showed quite heavy rain back across to the airfield. There was however a "pot of gold" at the end of the rainbow ... the storm had passed through to the west, a pelican was soaring over the car park at Maccas and the McCafe coffee was excellent!

The airfield had however been left fairly wet and uninviting ...

Our Duty Instructor (Peter Stephenson) arrived in style in his Super Ximango motorglider ...

The sun tried its hardest to come out (several times) ...

But alas, by 9:30 Peter had to call off gliding operations for the day ...

Sad to say that we have full crew waiting but the weather is not cooperating.

That left Neil Schaefer, Peter Stephenson and Tony Sorensen doing their best impersonations of glum, glummer an glummest!

At around 10:30 am there was a big enough break in the weather for Peter to make a dash for his hangar at Redcliffe.

And sadly, that brought our club gliding operations to a close for the 2014/15 Financial Year.
