Tom Bird is a long time great mate of Bert Persson (they are both Life Members of the Alice Springs Gliding Club).

I had the pleasure of meeting Tom and taking a winch launch at the Bonds Springs airfield when I did the trip to the Alice to collect WUC some two years ago.

This is what the landscape is like ...

My log book confirms that my flight at Bonds Springs (just north of the Alice) was on 26-Jun-10 ... this was the interesting skyscape as I headed into Alice Springs from the south on the previous day ...
