Today saw the least aviation activity at YCAB that I can recall for a rain-free day on a dry airfield.

Car parks, hangars, taxiways, runways and the local airspace were all virtually vacant for most of the day.

Steve Bowtell as Tug Pilot ended up being the only member of the original Duty Crew to be a part of the day's gliding operations.

Dave Donald had made the trip to Caboolture, however with Tony Sorensen at the airfield and available, Dave took the opportunity to arrange for Tony to supervise the day’s gliding operations while he visited his parents on  Bribie Island

Mike McCluskey had organised for me to replace him as Air Experience Instructor (while he recovers from wrist surgery.

Tim Williams had informed Garrett that he would not be able to be Duty Pilot today (or for some time) as he has decided to put his gliding on hold while attending University full time.

So it was off to RWY06 with IKW to accommodate our only commitment of the day ... an air experience flight booked for 11.00 am.

When we arrived there with the van (christened by Arthur Mailey as "MOO" the "mobile operations office"), IKW and SPA, Rob Clifford called into the flight line  to enquire about joining CGC.

My flight with Phil Ryder on board resulted in 35 minutes (from a 4,500 feet launch to the north of the airfield … above the cloud base of 4,000 feet).

We landed long to be close to the RWY06 piano keys with a view to having only a short distance to travel to tow IKW to the tie-down area.

However, when I realised that Rob Clifford was still at the flight line, we towed IKW back there to enable me to offer for Rob to join me for a ''hangar flight" as his first taste of gliding (19 minutes from a 2,000 feet launch to the west of the Bribie Island exit roundabout on the Bruce Highway).

And that was it for gliding at Caboolture today ... two flights in IKW for a total of 54 minutes.

Tony Sorensen later commented that I had had a big day … with the longest flight of the day as well as the second longest flight of the day!

There was however activity of a maintenance kind at YCAB today ...  Bernard "Speedy" Gonsalves, Bert Persson and Lindsay Mitchell spent a  day in the hangar toiling over the ongoing refurbishment of the IS-30 (GQA).

PS: Arthur Mailey has confirmed that Friday was not entirely wasted, he and Shane Tuck installed a new/extra roof on the new Mobile Operations Office turning it into something resembling a gypsy caravan ...
