And,
Arthur Mailey took son James for a 41 min flight
in CQC but the warm conditions under the awning
of the van chased his daughter’s family back
to their air conditioned car, abandoning all
hope of a flight today. They will be back they
said so all is not lost.
We
were also joined by a passenger from Calliope,
Dan Carney, who had booked a flight on his way
down and gave every indication that he’d
enjoyed his time with John Ashford and CQC.
Garrett Russell dropped to check on us in en
route to work before duty called, but I get
ahead of myself.
Ken
Mitchell, Shane and later arrival Alex Horvath,
all required Barry’s skills as an instructor
so we expected him to be instructor and AEI on a
very warm humid day. Just what happened to
the plethora of instructors/tuggies we often
have at the Friday flight line! There was not a
spare to be seen so John Ashford multitasked as
AEI and relief tuggie while John Knox extended
his shift in the heat before refuelling SPA
ready for John Ashford to take control.
Therefore, sincere thanks are due to both
tuggies and to our instructor of the day.
As
for us mere members, we persevered during the
day with retrieving and launching and Charles
Hoch and Bob Hainsworth took CQC for a couple of
flights, one early and one, a hangar flight,
while Arthur and I flew QA home to bed
encountering rough treatment by thermals which
we could have done without. Speedy and Bert both
set off in their own gliders because as Speedy
said, you cannot ignore a sky like that. They
both joined us for a restorative drink before we
departed for the day.
