Sunday's report.

Sunday
was shaping up to be busy with clear skies, 3
passenger flights and one Instructor Request booked.
Especially so considering we arrived expecting
only one 2 seat aircraft to be serviceable. The
early confirmation that GYK’s spoiler issue was now
a minor defect was good news for all.
Duty
L2, Mick Moloney, discussed the finer points of a
4500’ launch in a Blanik with Duty AEI, Chris Weir,
while Duty Tug Pilot, John Ashford, prepared SPA.
Members, Jacob Mason (with father Tony), David
Egerton and I unwrapped GXQ and GYK and prepared to
head to 24 for the morning.
First
launch at 11:09 was Jacob and Tony Mason in GYK.
By this time David Higgs, Peter Stephenson and
our first passenger, Penny Grigor, had arrived. Penny
was flown to 3500’ and back by Chris Weir. Then
new member, David Egerton, had his first training
flight. The flight sheet showed 22, 23 and 24
minutes respectively.
We
switched to runway 12 with the expected wind change
and Chris Weir then demonstrated that some of the
magic we call lift was developing, taking second
passenger David Trickey, for 45 minutes from 4500’
in GXQ.
The
second piece of magic for the day occurred then with
the news that David Higgs and Speedy had rectified
CQC’s undercarriage fault and that it was now
available for use. Thanks to Mr Higgs and
Stephenson for preparing and towing out CQC.
David
Higgs then launched solo in GYK, Chris Weir took our
third passenger Joseph Barrowcliffe to 4500’ in CQC
and Mick Moloney extended David Egerton’s training
in GXQ. Then, despite signs that the day’s
lift was gone, I launched in CQC for a tie down
flight. 25 minutes later, Mick Moloney and David
Higgs joined me in GXQ for almost an hour of the best
afternoon soaring that I have yet experienced at
Caboolture.
Thanks
very much to everyone who came to fly and to help
around the flight line.
Stats:
GYK
- 3 for 1:06
GXQ
- 4 for 2:21
CQC
- 2 for 1:39
