Saturday’s
soaring can be summed up in four lines:
Flight 1 RWY30 09:25 33 minutes
Flight 2 RWY30 10:25 48 minutes (including
aerobatics)
Flight 3 RWY06 11:29 26 minutes
Flight 4 RWY06 12:13 15 minutes
The two flights on the climbing side of this
profile were Steve Bowtell flying a couple of
friends
The two on the descending side were Karl Bodi with
an AEF and Speedy Gonsalves showing David Guzzwell
that when the lift disappears, it disappears
for everyone.
All were in CQC, all towed by Steve Chapman, and
there was a fifth flight without the Pawnee: Kevin
Rodda in his new toy VH-GHG.
His self launched flight lasted about 23 minutes
in a blustery blue sky that did NOT match this
photo.
So by early afternoon the crew had wrapped up and
retreated from the heat to cool drinks in the
hangar
We stayed there long enough to entertain visitors
Anton Szabo (new member as of yesterday) and John
Dawson (Aero Club President)
Until most of the crew wilted off home and the
hard core retreated further into an air
conditioned environment which we mysteriously had
all to ourselves.
Surely the honestly gained sweat of glider pilots
isn’t THAT offensive to the discerning tastes of
the Maccas crowd?
