After moving our regular flying day it was hoped reasonable weather might be on the cards at YCAB today ... but this was not the case with an overcast
sky greeting us and with reasonable low cloud cover no lift was evident with
the air as smooth as glass.

Never the less a good roll-up occurred ... which included Lindsay
Mitchell, John Nestor, Anne Bradley, Ken Mitchell,  Bob Hainsworth, Charles
Hoch, Shane Tuck and David Crocker. Judith Smith telephoned in to report
that she was on the sick list and regular "Friday Flyer" Arthur Mailey was
busy supervising installation of a new roof on his recently purchased home
on Buderim.

Duty Instructor was L2 Barry McCarthy and "Tuggies" for today were John
Knox (am) and CFI John Ashford (pm).

We were just about to tow gliders, GYK and CQC, to the flight line when John
Knox gave us the bad news ... TOJ had a flat battery. Fortunately John
Nestor had a heavy duty set of jumper leads so we got TOJ started and for
most flights thereafter a jumper start was necessary.

Welcome visitor was Neil Schaefer (Chief Flight Instructor for Go Fly
Aviation) who some years ago was a Level 1 Instructor at Lake Keepit. Neil
called to renew his "affair" with gliding and after a flight with Barry in
the IS28B2 advised that he will be joining the Club with the aim of renewing
his Instructor Rating.

No lift around but John Nestor, Ken Mitchell and Shane Tuck, after check
flights, each ventured aloft as did Bob Hainsworth and Charles Hoch BUT all
were back on the ground after short flights ...  David Crocker continued his
training and believes that he is now ready for some challenging simulated
"rope breaks".

With about four flights yet to get aloft the sky decided to open-up with
light drizzle and then rain SO we packed-up in the wet BUT did manage the
following flights albeit all were very short given the conditions:-

GYK       8 flights
CQC      3 flights
.............................. ........................
Total    11 flights          2 Hours 52 mins
.............................. ........................

Somewhat of a frustrating day BUT a good day for short training flights as
the airfield was pretty quite.

Fingers crossed for better weather next Friday/Saturday and
Sunday........watch this space for some good news from our Club President
about SPA.

Safe Flying,
