Sunday's Flying.

Hi
all. Sunday started out bright, clear and early.
Initial flying requirements looked sparse with just
one passenger booked, but word that Nick Sheahon and
wife Kylie would be joining us, and the arrival of
Tony Sorenson, upped the ante.
Preparation
was relaxed and by the time we had set up the tug, the
pie cart, and both GYK and IKW on runway 12, Mick
Moloney (DI) had convinced a visitor to take a flight
and I had received a call from Alan Graham advising us
of his intention to bring two more launches to the
party.
With
light winds strengthening South to South Easterly and
still clear sunny skies, the day was looking more and
more promising.
First
launch, at 11:15, was our walk-in passenger Derek
Goeller with Neil Muspratt (AEI). Derek is a US
citizen about to head home after doing some work for
James Hardy as an IT tech. Neil scored 26
minutes for Derek, from 3500’, but would better that
later as conditions improved. Helen Berkeley,
our pre-booked passenger, arrived just in time to see
Nick Sheahon launch on a check flight with Mick before
taking her place in IKW with Neil, this time for 38
minutes.
Nick
Sheahon took a solo launch at 1306, in GYK, for 21
minutes before packing up the glider and heading home.
Nice to see you in the air again Nick.
Alan
arrived, but only took one launch, at 13:24, in IKW,
with sister-in-law Sue, for 40 minutes - flight of the
day. By this time, father and son team Russell
and Matthew Allison respectively had arrived.
Russell and Matthew had been in contact with Garrett
Russell and we were duly advised that they were
interested in possibly joining the club. Mick
worked some of his magic, convincing both to try a
flight, while I took my first launch since Caboolture
Week the previous year and rediscovered soaring with
Tony Sorenson. Unfortunately, there was just
enough lift left to tease us and our variometer and we
were back after 32 minutes.
Final
flights for the day were Neil with Matthew and then
Mick with Russell in the cool, still, late afternoon
air obtaining times of 21 and 17 minutes.
A
most rewarding day saw the last of us leaving in
darkness after everything was put to rights. One
booked AEF had grown to four thanks largely to
Mick’s silver tongue.
Thanks
also to Mick for finding and inviting George and Emma
over for a closer look at our operations, all whilst
making what seemed like endless ferry trips to the
carpark for all our visitors.
Thanks
to Tony Sorenson for sharing the day with us and
providing me with an enjoyable check flight and
re-introduction to our Twin Astir.
Thanks
to Neil for aptly handling an ever growing number of
AEFs.
Thanks
most of all though, to Dan Kershaw for flawlessly
towing us all into the sunny skies.
Happy
Soaring everyone,
