GLIDING IN AUSTRALIA

The Gliding Federation of Australia (GFA) is a non-profit Incorporated Association supported by around 2,300 members belonging to one or more of the current 88 clubs spread across Australia.

The GFA has a three-tiered administrative structure … Club, State/Region and Federal.

Every club is a member of State/Region Association which is supported by and works closely with, the GFA's Regional Technical Officers (Operations, Airworthiness, Sport, and Marketing & Development).

Each club may elect one or more delegates to represent the club at the State/Region Association.

There are five State/Region Associations …
     1. GQ – Queensland Gliding Association Inc. (Gliding Queensland)
     2. NSWGA – New South Wales Gliding Association Inc. (includes Australian Capital Territory)
     3. VSA - Victorian Soaring Association Inc. (includes Tasmania)
     4. SAGA - South Australian Gliding Association Inc. (includes Northern Territory)
     5. WAGA – Western Australian Gliding Association Inc.

Each State/Region Association elects one delegate (with a deputy) to represent their region at GFA, where they become Board members carrying two votes. Collectively these people, together with the members of the GFA Executive, make up the GFA Board, the ruling body controlling GFA activities.

The GFA Executive is made up of the President, the Vice-President and the Treasurer as well as the Heads of the Operations Panel, the Airworthiness Department, the Sports Committee and the Marketing & Development Committee. All positions on the GFA Executive carry a five year limitation.

GLIDING QUEENSLAND

GQ works within the rules and regulations of the GFA to train, supervise and develop the skills of club members in all aspects of safe flying and maintenance of gliders.

These procedures are reinforced at the club level by working closely with GFA Regional Officers.

GQ facilitates the ongoing development of soaring skills and challenges at all levels by actively promoting coaching sessions and competitions such as the Easter and State Competitions.
