Hi All,

 

Well the 2012 Easter Comp has been and gone (apart from the financial wrap up that is) and once again I can report with pride that “Team Caboolture” did an outstanding job. 

 

And who comprised Team Caboolture this year? Well the following all played a part – Kevin Roden, Garrett Russell, David Higgs, Mick Moloney, Neil Muspratt, Anne Wade, and Steve Bowtell were at Chinchilla for the whole Comp, while Alan Graham, Karl Bodi, Nathan Cornwell, Lindsay Mitchell, Adam Luff, Tim Williams and Simon Descovich were there for between one and four days.   

 

The overall performance of the team was excellent and well reflected the experience gained by some in previous years. The outcome was a competition which ran very smoothly, was enjoyed by all participants and, importantly, was without a major incident!

 

While everybody mentioned above contributed in no small way to the eventual outcome, it would be remiss of me if I did not single out a few for special mention.

 

David Higgs and Mick Moloney between them provided assistance to competitors in downloading traces and David did an excellent job in ensuring that the scoring system functioned without fault, although he had a few anxious moments early on!  The end result was that final scores for the day were usually known by dinner time!

 

Chief Marshall Garrett Russell organised the launch grid and controlled his team of rope runners, wingmen and recorders such that the whole launch process functioned like a "well oiled military machine” on all days.  Then along with other members of the Team, he made himself available for retrieve duties.

 

Neil Muspratt ran the bar for the duration of the Comp and also collected sandwiches from the local CWA each morning and sold them over the bar. His tireless efforts will result in a tidy profit for the Club.

Garrett Russell and other Team Caboolture members ensured that everything was set up for the daily briefing and saw to the numerous other tasks that had to be done to keep things functioning.  Garrett also hosted a highly successful visit by the local press which resulted in an excellent article in the Chinchilla News.  He also provided information to other media outlets with good results.

 

Steve Bowtell flew SPA throughout the competition and, as usual, did a great job.  The return flight via Gympie was rather eventful as reported by Kevin Roden in another email!

My “better half” Anne was the focal point of the registration process and handled payments and refunds.  She also was a tower of strength in the organisation of the Presentation Dinner on the final night.

Many other members of “Team Caboolture” flew a Competition Day in IKW thanks to Kevin Roden who was the P1 for each flight and provided valuable XC instruction to those with whom he flew. Kevin has provided an excellent description of these flights in a separate message to cgcnews.

 

I can say without any hesitation that those Club Members who went to Chinchilla all did a great job and, without their combined efforts, the competition would not have been the success that it undoubtedly was.
