A
smaller than usual group gathered at the tie down
area. Judith and Garrett were at Gympie today, Charles
Hoch was expected back from his travels but did not
show. Tony Sorensen was duty instructor, aided by
Barry McCarthy, John Knox started the days towing but
was soon relieved by Karl Bodi, who was joined by
Steve Bowtell around lunchtime. Lindsay Mitchell was
also there along with Arthur Mailey, Ken Mitchell, and
Bob Hainsworth, and a friend of John Knox's, Peter
Arthur. Shane Tuck and Kevin Rodda joined us a bit
later.
There
was an obvious inversion and nobody seemed keen to
fly, even though the IS28, Blanik GYK and the Libelle
were DI'd and towed out to 12. Eventually after an
interesting talkfest Peter Arthur was taken up by
Barry for a flight at 10.40am. The glider was back on
the ground in 15 minutes, which hardly encouraged the
rest of us. At 11.37 Arthur decided to try his luck in
the Libelle, in a sky that looked a lot better. This
was a good call as he achieved 1 hour and 26 minutes.
Soon after Ken Mitchell took a launch in CQC and just
pipped Arthur at 1 hour and 28 minutes. Well done Ken,
achieving your first 1 hour flight. Shane was next in
the Blanik, also looking for that elusive hour, but
was back in 37 minutes.
Lindsay
then launched in the Libelle, and I took CQC not
expecting Lindsay to be back with GJY any time soon. This was a
good decision as Lindsay was up for 2 hours 17, the
flight of the day, while I managed 1.23. As much as I
tried to get the extra 5 minutes to pip Ken the sky
was not co-operative.
Kevin
Rodda launched in his ES-KA6 at around 2:15, but only achieved 45
minutes in what was by then a fading afternoon sky. Shane hanger flew GYK and
Tony CQC (Tony getting 22 minutes and Shane 17).
The
Stats: CQC 4 flights totaling 3.28, GYK 2 flights
totaling 0.54, GJY 2 flights totaling 3.43, and GRV 1
flight of 0.45.
