Hi everyone.

Visitors to the field on Sunday could have been forgiven for thinking that there wasn't an awful lot of flying going on but with an average time aloft of *48 minutes* for only five flights there was definitely lift to be had for those who went looking for it. It could have been a much busier day, if only more members had visited the field. With only the one AEF booked at 11:00 the duty crew of L2 Barry McCarthy, DP Alan Graham, TP Dan Kershaw and AEI Neil Muspratt brought only IKW out to runway 06 and set up shop ready for customers, leaving GJY and GYK in the tie down area still wearing their pyjamas. Both could have been used.

Lindsay Mitchell joined us at the pie cart for a while and it was during this time the day started to look more promising as the first small cumulus clouds began to pop out near the range to the west. It was soon happening much closer to the field and the high cloud cover started to dissipate.

With next to no wind we were somewhat bemused early on by the trickle of ultralights and light aircraft whose pilots decided to take off on 24 instead of the default 06. A case of follow the herd, perhaps? Baa.

Alan and Barry got things rolling with a 0:24 flight in IKW with Alan discovering, in his first time in the rear seat, why it's much easier to fly the Twin from that position. I guess that means he is now rear seat endorsed? Congratulations, Alan!

We were then joined by Air Force Cadet Harrison Turner and his family who were all keen to see what this "gliding" thing was all about, but particularly Harrison! Bert Persson also dropped by the pie cart to say hello.

Next up was yours truly with the sole AEF passenger, Jacob Webber, who came to us with five hours powered flight experience under his belt. After 0:46, some time on the controls, and a good 1,500' climb in up to five knots of lift, he went away with his certificate as a happy man. Hopefully he will be back for more.

Kevin Rodda then arrived with GHG in tow and self-launched for a 0:56 effort. This was followed by the flight of the day at 0:59 as Barry McCarthy took an eager Harrison Turner for his first glider flight in IKW. I think he enjoyed it. Kevin then (almost) repeated his first flight performance in GHG with his second, coming back after 0:55.

As can be seen from the times this was certainly a day when flights of over an hour would have been achievable, however with no other members or passengers to fly we packed up early in the afternoon and enjoyed a drink in the hangar. Thanks to Dan for the soft drinks!

And, of course, while all of the above was going on, Lindsay, Speedy and Bert were busy flying a hangar, working away on IS-30 GQA most of the day. It's coming along very nicely in their capable hands.

The stats:

IKW: 0:24 0:46 0:59
GHG: 0:56 0:55

For the Sunday crew.
