Not Your Usual Friday
It’s
not usual at Caboolture that the first launch of the
day turns into the longest flight of the day, not even
when it’s a bit of a late start. It’s even less
usual for it to be a pre-solo training flight.
Congratulations Jim Thompson on your 1:37 in GYK with
Tony Sorensen. With your instruments covered!
It
was also not the usual Friday crowd around the Pie
Cart. Just Tony, Jim, Mike Grady, Barry McCarthy,
Arthur Mailey and Bob Hainsworth for most of the day.
I
was a late arrival after Aero Club meetings, just in
time to see the second longest flight of the day land
at about half past twelve.
That
was Barry and Bob in GQA, who say they came down under
airbrakes after 1:08 only because one of them was
busting for something or other which apparently could
not be accomplished in the air.
GQA
and GYK all but equally shared glider honours, each
with three flights for 2:13 in the 30 vs 2:16 in the
Blanik.
By
about one o’clock the lift was mostly gone under
over-developing clouds. By just after two the last
flight was landing in light rain and a strong cross
wind. A perfectly timed end to flying, followed by a
lot of banter and chatting - which is much more like
your usual Friday!
