Arriving at YCAB at 0830 saw a small but growing group of members preparing to retrieve a Blanik.
By the time we left with trailer in tow, the group included Garrett Russell, David Higgs, Mick Moloney, Steve Chapman, Karl Bodi, Kevin Rodda, Lindsay Mitchell, Rod Wilson, Bert and Speedy.  We were met at the site by Arthur Mailey, who had gone ahead to ensure that we could access the aircraft on private property.
The retrieve was straightforward and we were all back at the airfield by about 1100.
A check of hands for interested aviators, now including potential new member Ben Shillong, then led us to the preparation of CQC and respective owners took to their K6 aircraft GRS and GRV while our Tuggie, Steve Chapman readied SPA.  Runway for the day was 12 and our first launch - Garrett Russell in GRS - occurred just before 1pm.
With the skies actually improving as the afternoon went on, we managed 6 launches including a 22 minute introduction to gliding for Ben Shillong who has some 300 hours in powered aircraft.
Flight of the day, by Kevin Rodda, began at 1347 and lasted about 2 hours with the usual light banter about whether it was actually 1:58 or 2:02.  Lindsay Mitchell managed 1:10 from a 2 O’clock launch in GRS.  Rod Wilson and Mick Moloney went looking to join the soaring K6s but were back in 23 minutes, unable to sustain in the light, choppy lift and the day was wrapped up with a spin recovery training flight for myself with Mick Moloney in the front seat.
Many thanks to all who attended for making the day’s activities easy.

Great report on what turned out to be a surprisingly good day.

It should be noted that the retrieve crew also included Tony Sorensen, continuing his duty as Friday’s duty instructor.

Kevin Rodda was appointed to hold the fort back at the airfield while the rest of the team was absent (and I must add how good it was afterwards to see the ES-KA-6 sister ships sharing thermals in the afternoon’s superb soaring sky)
