IS-28 front seat belt

17-Mar-14

Please note the CORRECT method of securing the front seat belt in the IS-28 as follows ...

The "tongue" shaped part of the belt's securing mechanism MUST only be inserted to the first set of notches (inward-bending) ... see the red asterisks in the above photo.

This is very important as, if the "tongue" is forced through to over the top of the second set of notches notches (outward-bending), the entire mechanism becomes bent and the integrity of the locking mechanism if then set in the correctly intended manner becomes compromised. The result could be that the belt releases in flight if accidentally bumped or there is a rapid movement of the glider.

Also, and just as importantly,  with the "tongue" forced through to over the top of the second set of notches (outward-bending), the mechanism could become jammed and/or difficult to release in an emergency situation.

Family & Friend passengers, Air Experience Flight passengers and trainee pilots are most often the persons occupying the front seat of the IS-28 ... it is therefore crucial that the ground crew, back-seat rated members, Air Experience Instructors and Instructors make sure that all front-seat passengers and student pilots are shown how to secure the seat belt PROPERLY on every IS-28 flight.

Lindsay Mitchell has again (yesterday) fixed the securing mechanism by re-bending both the inward-bending and outward-bending notches which had again been flattened and twisted by repeated INCORRECT securing of the seat belt.
