Lift is all we need!

Saturday 17-Jun-12

Our theme song today was ... "all we need is lift ... all we need is lift ... all we need is lift, love ... lift is all we need" ... (with appropriate apologies to John Lennon and Paul McCartney).

The tows behind SPA into the blue over Caboolture and Morayfield (as we headed upwind from 24) were hard work ... they were full of bumps and turbulence that promised good lift. Much to our disappointment however, there was very little lift to be found all day!

John Clayton (Duty Instructor), Peter Stephenson (Instructor), Chris Weir (Air Experience Instructor), Mike Grady (Tug Pilot) and David Hawes (Duty Pilot) made up the Duty crew. They were joined by recent new members Justice Lockley, Lars Widjsman and Jesse Gain as well as Nathan Cornwell, Karl Bodi, Bernard Gonsalves and Kevin Rodda to make it a busy day at the 24 flight line.

Nathan Cornwell and John Clayton - after a check flight Nathan took CQC for a solo flight to record the longest flight of the day!.

Along with the friends and relatives who turned up at the pie-cart to support our AEF passengers e had  some unscheduled drop-in visitors enjoying the flight line as (as they considered possible future involvement with the Club). It was a hive of activity around the pie-cart for most of the day.

Chris Weir readies QA for one of our two Air Experience Flights today while Lars Widjsman (white t-shirt) waits to run the wing. In the front seat is Craig Christie.

We had a peanut gallery ...

... as well as a press gallery!

All up, there were 13 flights for the day ... 2 air experience flights, 2 member solo flights and 9 training flights (7 flights in CQC and 6 flights in QA).

The longest aero-tow launch flights for the day were:

- Nathan Cornwell in CQC (31 minutes in CQC)
- Kevin Rodda / Karen O'Reilly (25 minutes AEF in QA)
- David Hawes / John Clayton (23 minutes in CQC)
- Chris Weir / Craig Christie (22 minutes AEF in QA)

Speedy returned to the pie-cart at around 3:00 pm to collect his van after a 50 minute flight in his K14 motor glider ...  he claimed that most of his flight was motor on as he unsuccessfully searched for thermal activity!

"Shake it, shake it, tail-feather" ... Karl Bodi and Nathan Cornwell do their very best "Blues Bros" impersonation!

Back at his hangar ... Speedy is obviously (and quite justifiably) extremely proud of the recent repairs and paintwork that has undertaken  on the nose of his Ka6-Cr (VH-GSR) ... not to be confused with the recent nose-job that he has also just completed on Garrett Russell and Barry McCarthy's ESKA6 (VH-GRS).

Safe flying,

Kevin Rodda
