Garrett Russell's message that gliding was on spurred me at least into
moving a bit faster getting to Caboolture today. The sky looked somewhat
hopeful so we set up on 06 once CQC and GYK were ready to head out. We took
two gliders because we had Ken Mitchell and me to fly the Blanik (though
Shane Tuck's arrival a little later made the decision seem more sensible)
and Arthur Mailey and Bob Hainsworth could fly CQC, solo for a change.

SPA was surrendered to the TLC of Tony Sorensen and Steve Bowtell so,
counting the numbers, it looked like being a short day. The flight sheet is
quite remarkable with short flights for me to commence and close the day and
Arthur making the most of the good air to get 1.21. Ken took the Blanik when
I brought it back and recorded 36 mins which was almost equalled by Bob's 34
mins in CQC, once Arthur returned. Well done! The only other flight recorded
was Shane whose flight was nearly as short as mine. Good try Shane. Even
later, Alex Horvath accompanied us for part of our sojurn under the awning
but chose not to fly today. Instead, he helped move everything back before
checking out Kevin and Speedy's new toy. Bert was supervising the removal of
the wing from the trailer in the old Sandora hangar. I'm sure Kevin will
supply photos!

Flying Tally: six flights, four in GYK for 1.17, and CQC's two added a total
of 1.55 to its record.

With clouds in the distance looking like the precursors of a series of
storms, we called it quits while gliders were dry and packed everything away
before cooling off a little prior to heading home.

Bob made a note that there are now two fewer strands of wire on the release
cable of CQC - something that may need attention rather soon. CQC will be
needed for the weekend with 'Older and Bolder' people coming for a flight.
Otherwise, the field and gliders should be ready for the weekend, if it does
not rain too much more. The drain areas are holding a few puddles but thestrip is okay so there is no good reason not to go flying.

Stay safe everyone,

Judith, on behalf of the Friday crew

The early end to the day's flying saw some of the Friday regulars "trying out" Kookaburra GLM's cockpit ...  she is now at YCAB and has been removed from the trailer ready for the Annual Inspection. [photos: Kevin Rodda]
