Peter
Stephenson (Duty Pilot), Dan Kershaw (Tug Pilot) and
Tony Sorensen were patiently waiting for flyers under
the shade of the hangar door when I arrived at YCAB
late morning today.
Air
Experience Instructor Chris Weir had phoned in sick
(hope you are feeling better soon Chris).
We
also had a visit from Bert Persson as the boys
assisted me in getting the Atlas (VH-GHG) out before
they called it a day and headed for home.
There
was not much to miss out on in the skies above YCAB
however ... my self-launch to 3,000 feet from
RWY12 at around 1:00 pm saw me back on the ground
"thermal-less" only 27 minutes later ... the
climb to 3000ft with motor on accounted for 12 of the
27 minutes!
The
airfield surrounds, the runways and the local airspace
were all virtually empty all day.
Hardly
any breeze and not too hot or humid today ... it would
have been an excellent day for training flights!
