Only a few hardy souls fronted up on Sunday morning – perhaps the AGM had exhausted many others – but those attendees were rewarded for their efforts.

Before heading off to perform his daily Maccas ritual, the sagacious Bert Persson looked to the heavens and uttered one word  - “blossoming” - as ideal cumulus developed before our eyes.  And with that assurance, our little band – Peter Stephenson, Mark Thompson, Tuggie Mike Gray, new member Simon Fallon, Tony Sorenson and yours truly headed off to 12 with CQC and the Libelle (and the remains of the Pie Cart) in tow.

Business commenced with Peter taking Simon on two training flights, the first of 15 minutes followed by a very creditable 52 minute effort which could easily have been extended in the conditions.

In the absence of any AEFs, Mark plumbed for a flight in GJY and was next seen on Runway 06… 2hours 14 minutes later.  However flight of the day honours go to Speedy and Bert who took the Kookaburra for a 2hr 35 minute flight.  (Mark Thompson disputes this conclusion insisting that since GLM was crewed by two very experienced aeronauts, the time should therefore be divided between them.)

Alan Graham and visiting mate Tony Damiano arrived, but since neither have been successful contestants on “The Biggest Loser”,  and consequently exceeded CQCs weight requirements, it fell to Peter “You can’t fatten a thoroughbred” Stephenson to take Tony on his first gliding experience.

In the meantime we were entertained by some formation flying by our resident Tiger Moths and Chipmunks.

Tony Sorenson concluded the day’s trading by hangar flying the IS-28 for – wait for it – 1 hour 56 minutes!

So overall, only five flights (not counting the Kookaburra), but a satisfying result for all concerned.

So overall, only six flights (including the Kookaburra), but a satisfying result for all concerned.

Hopefully we will enjoy similar conditions this coming weekend.

 Safe flying,
