Not so good Friday

Leaving
Brissy this morning the sky was overcast, but was
found to be sunny with a few clouds at the field.
Barry McCarthy was level 2, aided by Garrett Russell,
with John Knox (plus Pat) to start the day's tugging.
Arthur Mailey, John Nestor, Shane Tuck, Kevin Dobbie
and yours truly were present, soon joined by Karl Bodi
to relieve John Knox who was sporting a fine plaster
on his nose ( he assured us it was a sun spot removed,
not a nose job, he's good looking enough already).
Mike Truitt turned up with 2 passengers who are
learning to fly in the motor gliders and maybe power,
with airforce ambitions, and asked us to give them a
glider experience, Cameron Bowers and Alec Taylor. At
least one is a possible future member.
The
Blanik did two flights, one check plus a training
flight, then Arthur and I took the IS28 for a mutual
flight. John towed us under a cloudy area, however it was
beginning to become over developed. We released at 1800
feet and headed under cloud hoping for lift but found
none and were back on the ground in 10 minutes.
The
Blanik continued to fly circuits, and most of us had
an early lunch. About 1200 the wind increased and the
clouds all blew away, so Arthur and I had another go,
this time finding broken lift and managing 26 minutes
which turned out to be the flight of the day. A bit
later we tried again, getting just 20 minutes and
landing on 06 we put the IS28 to bed. We did 3 flights
totalling 56 minutes.
The
Blanik continued to fly circuits, but unfortunately on
its final landing on 06 the port tailplane was damaged
and it will not be able to fly this weekend. Bert
Persson inspected the damage, which can be repaired
but we don't know how long it will take to get it back
in the air. The Blanik did 10 flights totalling 2
hours and 19 minutes.
