Well, at least we flew
today. Three times, in fact.
That’s better than
the Friday Crew managed on this year’s previous
Friday 13th, and better than any Friday
since the middle of January (to save you looking
up your calendar, that’s seven solid weeks of
voodoo).
There has been such
a paucity of Friday flying that first, second and
third agenda items today were currency flights for
members who have not flown since 16 January.
Ticking Box number
One was Arthur Mailey, logging not only his first
flight in two months but his first in IKW since
2011.
Box number Three was
ticked by Ken Mitchell, also on his first flight
in two months and first ever in a Twin Astir.
So what about Box
number Two? That was never ticked because John
Nestor launched in the Club Libelle while Bob
Hainsworth waited for his currency
check and Judith Smith waited to fly with Bob
Turner on the way to being endorsed for the
Libelle.
The flight sheet
tells the story of the soaring conditions:
1. IKW Tony
Sorensen/Arthur Mailey 0:36
2. GJY John Nestor
0:22
3. IKW Garrett
Russell/Ken Mitchell 0:23
And as the third
flight landed in squally winds, the rain front
descended to send us scurrying. While half the
crew hurried the tug under cover the other half
showed great Friday ingenuity to halve the glider
retrieve time back to the tie downs:
And the ultimate
voodoo irony: Mike Grady arrived to relieve John
Knox in SPA just in time to push it out of the
rain.
The weekend
forecasts are for better weather, the Twin Astir
is ready for more conversion flights, and the
Friday Crew have taken enough for the team that surely you’ll
have better soaring!
