Hi all,
Arriving at the field Saturday morning
saw the kind of weather used in tourist brochures of
Queensland. Clear air and bold blue skies. The
arrival of Nathan Cornwell (our only non-duty-crew student
pilot for the day) saw us preparing CQC, SPA, the Pie Cart
and Barina for our operations. Early powered traffic was
observed using runway 12 but forecasts suggested 30 would
be the better choice, and the strength of the breeze all
day could easily have allowed the use of any runway on the
field.
The Duty Crew comprised of Karl Bodi in
the tug, Dave Donald as L2, Mark Thompson for AEI and
myself in the role of Duty Pilot. We received an early
notification from Anne Wade that Brian would not be able
to attend due to an injury sustained overnight. We all
hope that recovery will be swift!
Flying commenced at 10:15 with a daily
check for Nathan Cornwell, followed by another for myself.
By this time small cloud formations were indicating
some air movement and both Speedy and Bert had been
observed taking off into the otherwise clear blue yonder.
Bert's early return dashed our hopes of a good day above
but Speedy's non-return convinced him to have another try.
Nathan and I took a solo flight in that order before the
arrival of Hannah Schimell, a German student and solo
glider pilot who took the final flight with Mark Thompson.
Figures for the day: 5 launches, 2 hours
58 minutes (and I finally managed my first hour aloft with
a 71 minute solo).
Thanks to all who participated. I hope
the following weeks provide similar opportunity for other
pilots!
Cheers,
David
Guzzwell
