G'Day All,

The IS-28 now has a new electric vario.   I finished fitting the near new B400 vario today and intended to do a check flight of it's operation but with no SPA that was impossible.

I've attached a copy of the operating instructions I've written.  There are 2 laminated copies in the cockpit pockets, 1 for the front, 1 for the back.  The back is for a reference only as the front seat has the only controls, there is no back seat repeater.
Thank-you to Vince Everett for providing the vario at a very reasonable price.  Vince has donated his IS-29 VH-GWC to the Caloundra Air Museum as it was uneconomical to do the STC modification to make it airworthy again.  He took the instruments out of the aircraft and CGC purchased the vario.  Thank-you Vince.

Cheers,

Lindsay Mitchell

OPERATING the B400 VARIO

Always:

a) turn the vario ON after turning the Master Switch on, and

b) turn the vario OFF before turning the Master Switch off.

On turning power on the pointer goes full down for a few seconds then back to zero.

Red and green lights near zero flash momentarily.

Vario is ready a few seconds later.

Audio volume is set by the toggle switch in top right mounting screw hole.

Moving switch up to the left increases volume, down to the right decreases volume.

The push button in the lower left screw hole has two functions:

1) Press and hold causes the pointer to give a 20 second running average. The audio

remains on current situation.

2) Pressed momentarily causes the audio to switch between “up only” and “full range up and

down” modes.

When changing from “up only” to “full range” both red and green lights briefly flash rapidly.

When changing from “full range” to “up only” only the green flashes.
