Friday’s report closed with the observation that
if the lift behind (or below) five hour-plus flights
continued into the weekend it would be big. Well …
How does 11 hours 36 minutes from just FIVE
flights sound?
These are the epic totals straight from
Saturday’s flight sheet:
GXQ 3:38 Garrett Russell/Christian Eckard
GRV 3:40 Kevin Rodda
GJY 0:51 Mike McCluskey
GLM 1:36 Speedy Gonsalves/Dave Lockhead
GJY 1:51 Mike McCluskey
"What’s two minutes between friends?”
It could well have been an even better result from
just FOUR flights if Mike had not needed to come
down for a pit stop to replace a failing battery.
Or it could have been FIVE epic flights in FIVE
gliders if Duty Pilot Rod Wilson had not dutifully
resisted any temptation to DI CQC and join us in
the sky. Instead, he remained steadfastly at his
post, keeping underemployed Tuggie Karl Bodi
company in the shade of the Pawnee wing while he
waited to log each of our landing times.
Yes, the Saturday crowd was so small we took only
one car to the flight line on RWY06.
German visitor Christian Eckard learned to fly in
a Blanik, knows all about Ka-6s and flies a
Libelle at home, so he felt perfectly at home in
the otherwise alien landscape of Glasshouse
Mountains and pineapple farms.
It’s a pity more members weren’t there to
share it.
However four more CGC members were on
the field all day.
Thanks to Arthur Mailey, Shane Tuck, Eric Dickeson
and Bob Hainsworth for keeping their eyes off the
sky and on their work to bring the new Pie Cart
closer to completion. The results are worth it!
And tomorrow?
Well, if the lift persists you could be in for a
BIG day.
But you’ll have to be at the airfield to get it!
