SPA did 15 launches on its first day back in operation.

The most significant of those flights was the launch at 11:56 of Bert and Speedy in GYK's Form 2 test flight following a very hard and hot morning for many members re-rigging the Blanik. Among those, Bob Turner deserves special thanks for coming out just to help with the work - he was the only one who did not get a flight.

As an indication of how important that work was to the club, GYK did five more flights through the afternoon. While CQC and GQA were returned to the tie downs, our training workhorse just got on with its job!

The three gliders recorded remarkably similar total flight times:

GQA             1:46
GYK              1:43
CQC             1:40

Longest flight of the day went to Arthur Mailey and Barry McCarthy, who scratched GQA through occasionally very challenging lift for 1:04. They were also the crew who took the 30 for its other two flights - with flight times which more accurately reflected the day's conditions at 19 and 23 minutes.

Second best time of the day was 26 minutes - scored twice by new member Kevin Dobbie with me sitting behind him.

The rest of the flights were a mixture of mutuals, check flights and training, and none over 23 minutes, with a switch of runway from 30 to 12 then 06 as the strong northerly eventually gave way to the sea breeze. Shane Tuck and John Nestor flew the day's only solos, with John touching down to conclude the day's flying at 16:34.

Saturday and Sunday should have more comfortable conditions for members to come out and celebrate the return to normal club operations, so let's see a good Spring turnout.
