11/5 at YCAB

Arriving
at the field Saturday morning, the sky was promising to
break the flying drought of the last few weeks. All hands
were on deck for setup as Duty Instructor John Ashford, AEI
Mike McCluskey and myself were assisted by eager pilots
Garrett Russell, Mick Moloney, Kevin Rodda, Lindsay
Mitchell, Rupert Perry and Theo Mus in unwrapping and
inspecting 3 equally eager gliders for the day.
As
we made our way out to 12 our tug for the day arrived in the
form of Mike Maddocks with his taildragging Cessna VH-NMJ
(anyone know the model? I forgot to ask him myself).
Theo
and Garrett were up first in GYK for a pre-solo training
flight, and with his launch the Caboolture Gliding Club was
back in the air!
Then
came the rain...
Frantic
viewings of the BOM radar loop ensued, as the entire crew
pondered the likelihood of more flying. And it seemed our
prayers were answered as the rain passed within the hour,
sunlight appearing at noon to spur our collective urge to
fly. Garrett and Theo were quick to hook up in GYK once
more, soon to be followed by Mick Moloney and Rupert Perry
in CQC, who were again followed by Kevin Rodda in GQA. More
black clouds loomed on the horizon and we knew our time was
short. It was barely one o'clock when John made the call to
start hangar flights, Lindsay and I took CQC for one last
flight while Mick and Rupert took care of GYK. By 3 o'clock
the rain had very much set in, ending our day's activities.
