With
so many other instructors about, Barry McCarthy prepared GRS
to go to runway 12 to join CQC and GYK. He had to
evict the resident ants before he could contemplate flying
it though. John Knox who was in charge of SPA had no
such difficulty I gather. Once John finished his shift
for the day, Karl Bodi was ready to take over in SPA though
he was looking longingly at CQC earlier. Sorry you did
not get a glider flight Karl. Maybe next time?
It
was good to see JC back at the flight line with us once
again on a Friday and he was put to work immediately, taking
Ken Mitchell for a couple of flights in GYK, one of them
very, very short. Obviously, we must thank our tuggies, John
and Karl for their time and thermal-finding efforts.
It appears that they were generally satisfactory as there
were others just as successful as David and Tony’s early
flight. It was even good enough to entice Speedy out
for 2:14 and, later, Bert dropped in to check on our
progress.
Since
CQC was available and was not spoken for early in the day,
Arthur Mailey and Bob Hainsworth took it and were seen here
and there chasing clouds and taking an inordinate amount of
time about it, not coming back until 1:29 later. Barry
and GRS were other early starters and took almost as long to
get back on the ground whereupon Lindsay Mitchell pounced
and he took GRS away for nearly as long. It was
getting tedious on the ground watching gliders all over the
sky trying to out-do the kites that were flying almost
everywhere.
Student
members please note that GYK comes out of the air on Sunday
night so if you are hoping for a flight like David and
Tony’s in the near future, you know what you must do!
I think Lindsay will be looking for a crew to help get it
back in the air asap. It was good though to see him
flying today.
However,
not all good things last and a sea breeze tried to spoil our
day but there were bits of lift keeping things going so that
John Clayton’s short flight in GRS at the end of the day
was not too dismal nor were the other hangar flights, given
they were ‘hangar’ flights.
Might
I warn Saturday’s attendees that the van had a flat tyre
when I brought it back to its perch. It may not be
easy to see in the longish grass but it was certainly
visible on any cleared area. Rear driver’s side
tyre.
Judith,
on behalf of the Friday crew …
