Subject: Saturday
- From drizzles to blue and cu's
Saturday's
crew arrived with early morning coffees in hand to
find what was a drizzly Caboolture sky developing into
some promising patches of blue and cumulus. For Duty
Instructor David Higgs, tug pilot Steve Bowtell and
myself as Duty Pilot, it turned out to be just
enough activity to tempt us into unwrapping the Blanik
despite not having any AEF's or members booked to
fly.
John
Nestor then arrived spot on time to convince us that
flying was always the right option! John prepared
the Libelle and soon enough we found ourselves at
the end of runway 12 with two gliders ready to go.
First
aloft at 10:39 were David and I in the
Blanik for my daily check flight. Upon our return 22
minutes later, we were launching John away for a
splendid soar of 58 minutes in the Libelle.
Albeit disappointed at being two minutes short of
an hour, John was all smiles, happy to have spent
time in the air!
On
the horizon we spotted a lone figure making the long
trek to the pie cart. We were pleased to see another
member join our ranks for the day in Bill Beeton. Bill
and David launched in the Blanik twice for flights of
18 and 21 minutes.
I
also seized the chance to fly, managing another two
launches in GYK for 12 and 17 minutes. Whilst we were
all fighting gravity in GYK, Speedy
had self-launched his lovely AS-K14 for a great
3+ hour effort. Well done, Speedy!
John
put the Libelle to bed with a hangar flight of 19
minutes.
The
pockets of lift only looked to be teasing us so by 2:00
pm we had packed up our things and were in
the hangar.
Many
thanks to Steve for towing us today and to John and
Bill for assisting with duties whenever they could.
It
was another excellent day for those at the field
but alas ... as we bid farewell, we looked up to
see streets of cumulus all around!
If
only we'd persisted for another hour!
Flight
