Yes,
we really did register 10,000 landings today.
It’s just that they were not on the flight sheet, but in a
Maintenance Release Book:
GQA finished today’s flying by clicking over the 10,000
flight mark!
Appropriately for such a landmark event, we also logged over
10 hours in total club flying time. And if you think that’s
a lot of flying for the Friday crew, you’re right. 14
flights all up with some newsworthy achievements among them:
Headline item #1 was the return to the air of CQC. A rather
slow return to the air, as airworthiness gurus Lindsay and
Speedy took over two and a half hours to satisfy themselves
that the glider meets all parameters and is safe to be flown
by other members. Arthur Mailey subsequently proved them right
with a 45 minute solo hangar flight.
Not to be outdone, Charles Hoch kept Barry McCarthy aloft for
one hour and two minutes of what I believe was a check flight
in GQA. And that time was pipped by headline item #2:
Alex Horvath found 1:11 worth of lift in GYK to score his
second solo hour. Congratulations, Alex, on taking the big
step towards getting those A, B and C Certificates in your log
book.
You may by now have surmised that there was a bit of lift
about today. Like the lift Paul Griffin and I parked in at
2,000 feet above the highway while we watched the IS-30 head
for a crosswind circuit entry with full airbrakes – and we
were on a circuit training flight which morphed into a 50
minute thermalling experience.
Other members enjoying the lift (though not necessarily the
heat) were Ken Mitchell and Judith Smith, with John Knox and
fortuitous blow-in Peter John sharing the day’s huge towing
burden. The day’s stats:
GYK 7 flights 4:37
CQC 3 flights 3:38
GQA 4 flights 2:22
And we’ll wrap this report up (literally) with headline item
#3:
CQC put to bed in her trendy new pyjamas.
What joy for the weekend crews to look forward to!
