Sunday
started out with rather low expectations but
surprised all in attendance. An easy start to the
day saw new student member, Rory Rearden, assisting
Duty Instructor, Peter Stephenson with a DI of GYK.
Tow Pilot, Neil Schaefer, had SPA well in hand and I
took charge of the pie cart.
With
one student and one passenger booked we saw no need
for additional aircraft and headed out to 12.
First
launch was just after 10am with Rory undertaking
spin recovery training prior to our booked
passenger, Glenys Waters’ arrival. Two car loads
of well-wishers, covering three generations of
family, were on hand for Glenys’ birthday
experience and with so many boisterous younger
children around, a schoolroom style safety briefing
was professionally delivered by Neil.
By
the time we were launching Glenys with Peter, the
developing sky had convinced both Bert and Speedy to
down tools and take to the air. Bert self-launched
while Speedy wheeled out the Kookaburra with
assistance from friend and passenger John
Ravenscroft.
Glenys’
flight with Peter Stephenson turned out to be club
flight of the day at 45 minutes with lift to spare
for later flights. Peter was launching again, with
Rory’s girlfriend Amelia as passenger, before
Speedy returned - logging another 1:35 in the
Kookaburra. Peter landed 42 minutes later and Amelia
enjoyed the flight so much she may well be joining
the club as well.
Karl
Bodi arrived and elected to take a launch into
dissipating lift, returning just 16 minutes later,
and the rest of the flying for the afternoon
consisted of three, 7 minute, circuit training
flights for Rory.
Packing
up was completed by 4:30 and we all departed happy
with the day’s results.
Parting
remarks, that the ’30 and Libelle would’ve made
even better use of the day’s lift if we’d only
had pilots to fly them…
Till
next time, and with thanks to all in attendance
today, Happy Soaring.
