Friday November 8 was not our usual Friday at first glance. The tug was in the air as I arrived but there was no glider behind it. All was explained when we assembled on 30 with gliders, van, assorted vehicles, etc. and Peter John assured us Tony Sorensen is again a tuggie - as well as an instructor. Great to see you back Tony.

You will have seen Bob Hainsworth's report on our vehicular problems. Thank goodness we seemed to have nothing wrong with our gliders. The weather was not up to par but we could not fix that so we got on with the day's activities as best we could with the help of our L2, Bob Turner, and rostered tuggie, John Knox who was relieved by Karl Bodi about mid-day. Just to keep up with the Friday bunch, Barry McCarthy and Lyn called in for a chat too, so maybe Barry will be back in harness very shortly.
While Bob and Kevin Dobbie got started in GYK, the other Bob (Hainsworth) and Charles Hock took CQC for a spin, metaphorically speaking. Both landed back after most unimpressive times and the day got no better. Best flight of the day was Bob Turner's effort when he took Ken Wales off to see what gliding is all about. Maybe a convert there?

We seem to have a lot of 18 min flights on the day's list - John Nestor in GYK, Arthur Mailey and Tony in CQC and Neil Schaefer and Peter Thomasetti in CQC as the sea breeze blew in to spoil our fun. Neil's second attempt to take Peter up to enjoy a gliding experience proved the sky was definitely not cooperating though Ken Mitchell had earlier scored a most creditable 35
mins late in the morning. Unsurprisingly after that, we packed up just before 1600 and, once everything was put away, sat in the cool of Kevin's Hangar watching all the boiling coils of black smoke from the fire that you will, no doubt, have seen on the news tonight.

And, quite irrelevant here, is the photo I took of the smoke while waiting at the lights at North Lakes on the way home.

Flight times as follows: GYK, 5 flights for 1.39 and CQC, 5 flights for 1.57 indicate that one decent flight could have accounted for the day's totals. Guess there's always next time.

Hopefully, things will be better tomorrow.
