Sunday
was a productive day in many respects.
With
reasonable and sustained conditions on hand, we
followed our powered brethren to Runway 12.
AAFC
student Jason Humrich continued his training with
three flights in the Blanik under Steve Bowtell's
guidance. Chris Weir took Angelika
Burroughs, the first of our two AEFs, on a 46
minute flight in the Twin Astir, after which Karl
Bodi introduced Damian Henley to gliding with a 24
minute soaring experience in IKW. A problem
with the tail wheel of the Blanik was resolved
with a team effort led by Steve to remove and
replace the tyre, and GYK was quickly back in
service. It was then time for Friend's
Flights with Rod Wilson taking Genevieve Faber and
Chris Weir piloting Eric Rye on flights of 29 and
51 minutes respectively. Neil Muspratt then
completed his annual check flight under Tony
Sorenson's watchful eye. In the meantime,
noticing that IKW was sitting idle, Steve made a
phone call to wife Charmaine, and she was treated
to a 25 minute hangar flight in the Twin.
However
the key news for the day was in the Tuggie
Department.
Firstly,
thanks to Mike Grady for his usual quietly
efficient performance of tuggie (and other
miscellaneous) duties.
But
secondly, after successfully completing a couple
of circuits in SPA, Dan Kershaw received the
Bowtell Seal of Approval and now joins the tuggie
ranks. Dan consolidated this appointment by
performing the last three tows of the day.
Top effort!

Stats
for the day: 5 flights in GYK for a total of
1hr 44mins; 4 in IKW for 2hrs 04mins.
Just for
the information of the Friday Crew, fuel in the
Falcon and the Barina was running low, and as the
Jerry cans were empty, Mike and I made a
quick trip to Caltex. We've put 20 litres in
the Falcon and 10 in the Barina, so there is about
10 litres left in the container.
