Sunday
turned out to be a modest day in terms of member
turnout, gliding weather, and consequently the
number of flights. Only Tony Sorenson
joined the duty crew of Peter Stephenson, Neil
Muspratt, John Ashford and yours truly, and
accordingly the Twin Astir was prepped for
flight.
As
we headed to Runway 12, initial signs seemed
favourable with plenty of developing cumulus in
evidence. However sporadic lift resulted
in a first flight of only 14 minutes for Messrs
Stephenson and Elsworth, the latter quickly
coming to the realisation that IKW has rather
different characteristics to a Blanik or an
IS-28.
Some
hard work by Tony was rewarded with the best
flight of the day at 24 minutes. We then
waited for an hour, watching the cum
everywhere…everywhere except the vicinity of
YCAB. With no signs of meteorological
improvement, Neil and Peter concluded the day's
activities with a 19 minute flight back to the
parking area.
(In
the meantime of course, Speedy embarrassed us
all with an extended flight in the K14).
The
day's rather disappointing stats: 3
flights for a total of 57 minutes.
A
couple of supplementary notes:
1.
Nick Sheahon has compiled a DVD record of the
Club's 2014 Queens Birthday meeting at Watts
Bridge, and has generously made copies available
to members at no charge. So come along and
grab your copy of "Watt a Weekend",
and get up to speed on the Twin Astir at the
same time!
2.
For info of the Friday Crew, I noted on Sunday
that the Pie Cart jockey wheel handle was
broken. However I have been able to apply
Man Cave Rule 1 ("Never throw anything that
looks useful away"), and replace the item
with the jockey wheel that has resided in my
shed for the last 10 plus years. It's on
the floor of the Pie Cart.
