HI all,
Today's attendees were Judith Smith, Arthur Mailey
were in attendance Bob Turner (as Level 2), John
Knox (as tuggie), John Nestor and me with step-daughter
Helen Bryant.
Helen decided last night, at the last minute,
that she would take a day off work to come to the
field with me to have a flight. Nice to be self
employed! We drove up in separate cars as Helen
planned to spend the afternoon on Bribie Island with
her dog Jasmine, who made friends with John's Pat
but mostly followed Helen or me around the field all
day.

We decided that CQC would be all we needed so after
a DI it was towed out to 12, I followed Judith, who
was towing the pie cart, in case anything fell off
it, after 100 metres from the tie down area it ran
out of petrol. The magna I was driving also showed
empty on the fuel gauge while the old Barina was
almost empty.
If anyone can tell us what the vehicles gauges
showed at end of play on Sunday would they please
tell us, I wonder if someone has stolen the fuel
during the week. Obviously we refueled the vehicles
but did not put very much in, the jerry cans were
refilled by John Nestor, 2 are still full in the
container if more is required over the weekend.
The new Barina battery was completely flat, we put
in on charge until we left at 1600, but did not
refit the battery, apparently Bert, who donated the
car, had some problems with the alternator, but I
suspect it was left with something switched on all
week. The problem is still under investigation.
I took the first flight with Bob Turner, me in the
back seat as I do not have a back seat rating and so
could not take Helen for her flight, I decided that
I really should get the rating. There was lift
around, so we returned to the field after 30 minutes
to allow Helen to have her flight. Arthur took her
up and that achieved the flight of the day at 55
minutes. Arthur says there were a lot of squeals
during the launch and release phases, but Helen
settled down after that and apparently enjoyed the
flight which was her first in a glider.
John Nestor took the next launch, still trying
for that elusive first hour, but was back on the
ground after 16 minutes. There was a brief hiatus as
John Knox had to leave to go to Darling Downs and we
had no other tug driver, Karl Bodi was phoned and
set off for the field while the anesthetic from a
morning dentist appointment was still wearing off.
When he arrived I took another back seat ride with
Bob, and finally John Nestor took the final launch
of the day with Bob Turner, conditions had improved
and the tie down flight turned into a 41 minute
effort, keeping us all wondering where they were
after everything else had been put away.
All up 5 flights totaling 2 hours 32.
A good time was enjoyed by all.
