Arrived
at the field this morning about 8am to find Bob Turner, duty
instructor, and John Knox (sans Pat), tuggie, patiently
waiting beside Kevin's hangar. The vehicles had been checked
and the tug DI-ed. Yours truly, duty pilot, made three. We
weren't expecting a crowd, having been notified that most of
the regular Friday Fliers were sick, had appointments with
medicos, or other business. Excuses, excuses!
However
Ken Mitchell was expected together with friend Igor, and
knowing he would not let us down we dried off the covers on
the IS28, leaving them on the aircraft for the sun to
complete the job and engaged in some small talk. About an
hour later they appeared, accompanied by their inamorata,
closely followed by Carl Bodi, so the covers were
whipped off and off we went to runway 12. It was at this
point that we hit a snag, THE TAIL DOLLY FOR THE IS28 WAS
NOWHERE TO BE SEEN.
Igor
flew first with Carl in the back seat, achieving a 25 minute
flight from 3500 feet, which turned out to be the longest
flight of the day. Ken flew next with Bob Turner for two 14
minute training flights. Yours truly and Carl were
contemplating a mutual parking flight while John phoned
Steve Bowtel to tell him not to bother to come, only to
discover he and Nathan were already at the field, so Bob
drove John and the two ladies over to their cars, leaving
Ken and Igor to walk, perfect gentlemen, and returned with
Steve and Nathan. Steve declined to fly the glider when Carl
offered to fly the tug for him, so Steve gave us a launch,
resulting in a 22 minute flight.
We
actually found lift briefly in a nice looking cloud street
just downwind of the field, but lost it and drifting
downwind had to head back. Due to the strong wind and
adverse crosswind on 06, we intended to land long on 12, but
long became short so we still had a long retrieve to the tie
down area.
All
up only 4 flights totalling 55 minutes, but a pleasant day
was had by all. Thanks to Bob and John for their efforts,
and Carl who flew one launch for John.
IF
ANYONE KNOWS WHERE THE TAIL DOLLEY FOR THE IS28 IS, WOULD
THEY EITHER RETURN IT TO THE FIELD OR CONTACT THOSE ROSTERED
ON FOR SATURDAY. We had a look around the field for it
without success.

PS:
Looking at my report I realised that the times do not add
up, it should have been 75 minutes altogether. I have
entered the wrong figure in the DI book. Can someone
tomorrow add 20 minutes to today's entry please. Bob
