Rain
on either side of Caboolture this morning gave an
ominous outlook on the day's flying. Just as well we
didn't cancel early, because the rain clouds
eventually cleared and it turned out to be an
excellent day.
I
arrived at the field to find L2 Peter Stephenson and
Tug Pilot Mike Grady planning the day's proceedings
and Tim Williams ready for some post-solo work. Ab
initio member Damon Bear Millichamp joined the crowd
soon after, along with his parents. Ashton Greive
then arrived with his father Jason, looking for more
pre-solo training. The piecart crowd was getting
much larger than expected, and once both CQC and GYK
were inspected and ready to go, we headed for 06 to
start the day.
Not
long after we had finished setting up the club phone
started ringing. David Crocker, Tony Sorensen, Karl
Bodi and a walk-in AEF were all looking for the go
ahead to come and help fill our flight sheet. New
member Damon took his first flight with Peter, and
our walk-in AEF soon followed with the help of AEI
Neil Muspratt. GYK became completely booked for
training, rotating between Damon, Ashton and David,
and gusty conditions off the end of 06 provided some
unique challenges for all pilots involved. Neil then
took his scheduled AEF up, Max Sutter has been
interested in gliding for many years and enjoyed his
3500ft launch, even though his stomach seemed to
think otherwise.
Tony
arrived and assisted with instructing, introducing
Damon to CQC and even managing to fit in some
thermaling practise with him. Rupert Perry then
arrived also looking to commandeer CQC, but instead
ended up converting into the Blanik. Short training
flights seemed the order of the day, with the
exception of Damon's last flight with Tony Sorensen
in CQC, clocking 58 minutes for flight of the day.
Stats
for the day:
CQC
6 launches
2hrs 27mins
GYK
8 launches
2hrs 02mins
A
few notes. Regarding the new cars (falcon/magna), I
heard that one of them runs out of fuel once the
gauge shows 1/4 full rather than empty. Is this
true? Both cars showed 1/4 full tank this morning so
we filled each with a bit of fuel from the full
jerry can in the shipping container. This can is now
about 1/4 full.
Thanks
to everyone involved for a great day.
See
you at the field,

Adam
